How Do I Calculate Tile Cartons for Any Area?
This is among the questions we get most often on WhatsApp, and it is simpler than it looks if you follow the order:
- Measure the net area: length × width for each room, then add the rooms together. Subtract anything that will not be tiled (fixed cabinets, floor-mounted bases).
- Add waste: multiply by 1.10 for straight lay, or 1.15 for diagonal lay. For 25 m², that means buying 27.5 m² or 28.75 m².
- Read the carton coverage on the product page (the "carton packing" field, in m² and pieces).
- Divide and round up: 27.5 ÷ 1.44 = 19.1 ⇒ 20 cartons (not 19).
- Consider a spare carton from the same batch for future repairs, since shade and thickness can differ between production batches.
To cross-check by pieces: pieces = required area ÷ (piece length × width in metres). A 60×60 piece covers 0.36 m², so 27.5 ÷ 0.36 = 76.4 ⇒ 77 pieces.

Note that this carton (1.8 m²) differs from the reference carton in the first table (1.44 m²), which is why the answer is 16 cartons, not 20. The carton size changed; the room did not.
Why Does Carton Coverage Vary Between Products, and How Does It Change the Count?
The manufacturer sets carton packing, not the tile size alone. These are the main packings on catalogue product pages (as of 24/09/2026) and what they mean for 25 m²:
